I’m sitting here writing this newsletter after an incredible day out at Lomax Farm. It inspires me so much to be a part of this incredible program that is becoming iconic in this community and in the organic agriculture community nationwide. The day started off with me running around gathering the necessary accoutrements to get my tomatoes tied up this weekend, and not a moment too soon, them puppies is growin’! Then it was off to Lomax for a luncheon with Leadership Cabarrus, a leadership and professional development group. The lunch was catered by the lovely Gina, and she did a magnificent job! Thanks Gina! I was also fortunate enough to talk a little bit about my dreams and goals and my passion for sustainable agriculture. Thank you all for coming out!

After lunch, my fellow Lomax Lummoxes and I got to work tidying up the farm, hiding the clutter, sweeping the dirt under the proverbial rug, in preparation for the arrival of Vivian Howard and the crew of her PBS TV show, “A Chef’s Life.” Vivian is cooking for a fundraiser dinner for Lomax Farm hosted by Scott Avett of the Avett Brothers, and using my onions as the featured ingredient! It was very cool to talk to her about my passion as well, as well as hang out with her cute assistant. I’ll let you know when the episode comes out!

Whilst this was all going on, the Food Policy Council of Cabarrus held a potluck dinner, tons of delicious food and good company! Thank you everybody for coming out to support us and for your continued support! I hope one day to repay you… perhaps in fresh, local food?!

Speaking of which, make sure you come on out to the Rotary Square and Market on Saturday, the forecast is sunny and I’ll be looking my best! This week we’ll have swiss chard, romaine lettuce, kale, squash, zucchini, and more. Not satisfied? needing for something more?! Fret not, my fair and conscious consumers, coming soon are carrots, tomatoes, peppers, peas, and cucumbers. MMMMMMM.

Again, always looking for folks who want to come out and have some fun in the sun! Always lots to do, and guess what, you’ll get free veggies for helping me! Shoot me an e-mail or give me a buzz if you’re interested, I’ll be out there all day Sunday.

“The ultimate goal of farming is not the growing of crops, but the cultivation and perfection of human beings.”
