I NEED more hours in the day!
Punxatawney Phil predicted it, and it seems like he might have been right (for once)! I hope you all have been able to get outside and soak up some vitamin D in this beautiful weather we’ve been having! I’m definitely beginning to sense that sweet smell, like freshly cut grass, lingering on every breeze. It might just be me, though I don’t think so, but when the weather first starts turning warm, I get a rush of energy and enthusiasm, as if some chunk of my being that had been hibernating through the cold of the winter is starting to stir, poking it’s nose out of it’s cave, and realizing the hunger inside… My energy is surging, and my hunger to grow you the freshest, healthiest food possible is escalating with unmitigated momentum!
I guess it makes sense that this burst of energy coincides with the start of the growing season, because I need as much energy as I can get! Let me tell you, this week has been INTENSE. I’ve been out sowing seed for more successions of spinach, radishes, lettuce and arugula, and getting some cabbage, kale, collards, broccoli, cauliflower and head lettuce transplants planted into the field. My farmer’s tan is already something fierce. The peas, spinach, beets and radishes that I sowed a few weeks ago are already well on their way on the journey to your bellies! The summer veggies are about to be underway, too. Tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and three types of basil are already underway, and in about a week it will be time to start getting trays of cucumber, squash and zucchini transplants started. Craziness.
There are only a few more weeks left to sign up to get your share of the Street Fare Farm CSA! There are still a few shares available, but act fast before they run out! There are a variety of options to suit your needs, and, let me tell you, the stuff I’m growing right now, you need it! Go to the CSA tab here on my website for more details and the application!
If any of you have any inkling or desire to come out to the farm and work on your very own farmer’s tan, I would love to show you what I have going on and growing on, and I’d greatly appreciate the help! And guess what, you would more than likely walk away with some produce, not to mention your new tan. If this interests you, send me an e-mail for give me a call, and we’ll get you playing in the dirt in no time flat!
I’m very grateful for you, my customers and newsletter subscribers, and I wish you a happy, healthy, and hopefully outdoor-filled week! Peace!
