Season Opener

These spring showers and mild, sunny days are doing great things for the vegetables in the fields! They grow up so fast. I almost think if you sat and watched for a little while, they might grow right before your eyes. It’s a good thing, too, because the NoDa Farmer’s Market season opener is next Saturday, a little event they like to call Spring Fest! (originally scheduled for tomorrow, but rescheduled due to soggy conditions.) This will be my first time attending this market as a vendor, and I’m looking forward to great success at this location, so next Saturday, after you snooze a little bit, drink some coffee and high-tail it to NoDa and support your local farmers!

Summer cucurbits are popping like crazy in the greenhouse. You’ve got your squash, zucchini, cucumbers, the tomatoes are jumping, the peppers are jonesing, and the eggplants… well, honestly, the eggplants aren’t looking so hot, but fret not, for I have more seed and will be starting another succession of eggplant within the next couple days! In the field, the rain really has been working wonders. The kales, chard, collards, cabbages, broccoli, and cauliflour are growing like crazy, the lettuces and arugula are so close to being ready for harvest, and the radishes, beets, carrots, peas and onions are steaming ahead. It all looks quite beautiful, if I do say so myself!

The chickens are growing like crazy too! What started as a few brave souls flying up on top of the brooder and then proceeding to screech because they couldn’t figure out how to get down (pathetic) has turned into a king-of-the-hill battle royale to reign supreme of the top of the brooder! Their appetites have yet to be assuaged, but that’s ok, because I want them to grow big and healthy so they can start giving me them delicious eggs!

BIG NEWS! My buddy Matt, who was pictured in last weeks newsletter, has decided that he is going to move in with me and help me keep Street Fare Farm growing at breakneck speed! He was down here all last week, and with his help we were able to get a ton scratched off that ever-growing to-do list. He’ll be joining me towards the end of April, and I can’t wait! His support and encouragement on this path of mine has been incredible, and now his direct support with be even better! Hooray!

I hope you have a great week filled with positive productivity, healthy food, fine friends and family, and peace and balance! I really hope to see you next weekend!
