“The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.”
Howdy! What a wonderful break from summer’s heat we’ve been having, and just in time for yesterday’s Autumn Equinox. The temperature is supposed to rise back up into the 90’s tomorrow, but after that it looks like we are going to sail on into fall, which, in case you didn’t know, is my most favoritest season.
Out on the farm, the fall veggies are truly enjoying the change in season. The greens are really perking up and filling out, and though I’ve been way behind this season, you all will be able to start eating Street Fare Farm salads again if you come see us at the market tomorrow! Matt will be at NoDa from 8am to noon, and I will be at the Winecoff market, and we will have mizuna, mustard mix, radishes, green beans, okra, peppers, and, as always, non-GMO, pasture-raised eggs by the dozen! We hope to see you out there!
This weekend, we will be adding to our flock, as we are acquiring 90 new hens that have just begun to lay from a buddy of ours that is getting out of the egg game! This should more than triple our production of eggs, which will be perfect as we move into the colder months when the veggies aren’t growing. We will be at the markets every Saturday, though, eggs in tow!
We had the privilege of dining with some fellow Cabarrus-ites at the inaugural Rooted Table farm-to-table dinner at the Gibson Mill in Concord. A special thanks to those who put the event on, the meal (featuring Street Fare Farm’s famous onions!) was spectacular and the company was even better. Thanks for all who came out, as the proceeds for the event go to the Lomax Incubator Farm to help train us next-gen farmers! Thank you!
I hope you all enjoy this transition into fall, and that you all stay safe in Charlotte. Times are a little tough right now, but we must all remember that love and peace, not violence, is the only way to incite true and lasting change. If you really want to see how all life on this planet is truly and indelibly connected, come out to the farm and I will show you. Peace and love!
