“The one who knows does not speak; the one who speaks does not know. The wise man shuts his mouth and guards his senses.”
-Tao Te Ching
Well folks, we are only one week out from getting out into the field and starting off this season stronger than ever! I just had the opportunity to spend a few days out in British Columbia, Canada with some old work buddies, for a little snowboarding session at Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains, and what a great way to finish off the off-season (what off-season?!) and get outside myself and away from the farm to recharge and get my mind right for the busy season ahead! There’s just something about being on top of the world under the big blue sky, surrounded by a sea of white, zooming down the mountain at speeds just outside of comfortable that really make you appreciate the beauty of the world and life, and give you the ability to clear out the head and focus your attention. It’s very meditative in a sense, that pure focus you have to administer to flying down the side of a mountain, where nothing else really matters save getting to the bottom in one piece. I absolutely love it, but I’m happy to be back!
Lily and Matt held down the fort with effortless style while I was away, and nothing makes me happier than coming back to a greenhouse full of thriving sprouts and the chickens clucking away, happy as ever. As soon as I got back, we started the spring brassicas in the greenhouse: trays of kale, collards, broccoli, cauliflower, chard and cabbage, and after sending this off we’ll be going back to start some of the first pepper and eggplant seedlings of the season. There’s a lot left to do in final preparation for going out into the field, but I am recharged and ready to tackle every task and obstacle that lies before me. I hope you all are as excited as I am to get the season going!
You better get off your hineys and sign up for the 2017 Street Fare Farm CSA before the shares fill up and time runs out! What could be better than getting fresh vegetables, boxed up and ready for you to take home with you, the cream of the crop, as fresh as can be, week in and week out throughout the course of the season? As part of the CSA, you will be my VIP customers, getting the freshest, prettiest veggies I can muster out of the dirt and clay, and will save you the time and money of sorting through all our veggies at the market tables. Though money is renewable, time is not, so hurry up and sign up! For more information, as well as the sign-up form, click on the CSA tab above!
We hope to see you at the farmers markets tomorrow for your microgreens and eggs, as well as Street Fare Farm schwag, ripe for the picking! The Winecoff Market and NoDa Farmers Market will be open from 9am til noon, hope to see you there!
I hope you all have a fantastic weekend and a productive week! Spring is just around the corner, life bursting anew after the winters rest. I just like to get a head start. Much love!
